Workshops/Classes

1

Join us once again for an exciting week filled with fun facts and farm festivities!  This year’s kids’ workshops include an expanded schedule, bringing in local experts on everything from animal care to historical pastimes, so kids can learn about all aspects of farm life.

$30 per child per class, or save by registering for the whole series ($125 per child). Classes run from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon each day, and families are welcome to bring a lunch to enjoy at the farm after class (until 1:00 PM).  Recommended for ages 6 to 12.  Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the class.

Have you ever wondered how the food on your plate started out on the farm?  Well wonder no more! We will teach you what your food looks like when it begins its journey at the farm, how it travels from the farm to your kitchen, and how to prepare it perfectly!  This journey includes terms on cuts of meat and dairy products. Also explore what foliage is edible, and take home your very own culinary creations!

Ever wonder what came first, the chicken or the egg?’ The famous “Chick Lady”, Linda Smith, will be sharing her wealth of knowledge of the care of chickens. From the brewder on. You will get to meet Pomeroy Farm's and Linda's Chickens as well as play games to practice your chicken knowledge!

This workshop includes everything you need to know about caring for a horse, from teeth to toe. We will also talk about the work horses do on the farm, both historically and today.  Includes multiple demonstrations of how horses eat, see, hear and move. You’ll even get to groom a real horse!

Learn about the fiber & textile process from the animal to the artistic creation. In this semi-immersive experience, we’ll talk about wool processing from preparing the fiber to making a garment or other creation. We’ll show you various tools and how they work including carding combs, a spinning wheel, & drop spindles. The lesson will culminate in a needle felting experience where participants can plan and create their own felted project to take home.

Finish out the week with some beloved farm crafts!  Pomeroy Farm’s own staff will be here to share three of our favorite historical crafts: corn husk dolls and hand-dipped candles! You may even have time to meet our favorite farm friend Percy the Goat!
